Description
Subramaniam Nadaison served as a Master Teacher (Tamil Language) at the Academy of Singapore Teachers from 2012 to 2022 and was appointed Principal Master Teacher in 2023. He played a pivotal role in supporting schools in the planning and implementation of Holistic Assessment in 2009 and contributed to two major national-level reviews of the Tamil Language in 2006 and 2010. In recognition of his professional excellence, he received the Outstanding Resource Teacher Award in 2003 and was awarded the MOE Postgraduate Scholarship in 2006.
Subramaniam is the author of Creative Writing, Positive Affect and Formative Assessment (2010) and has led numerous pedagogically driven publication projects. These works focus on areas such as extensive reading, creative and effective teaching practices, spoken interaction skills, Tamil cultural literacy, learning through play, and principled lesson planning anchored in micro-skills and success criteria.
Under his leadership, a range of impactful programmes and resource-building initiatives were conceptualised and implemented to strengthen the Tamil Language teaching fraternity. Key contributions include the development of an online Tamil Grammar Repository, the publication of the eBook The Future of Our Past: Redefining the Singapore Tamil Experience, and the introduction of a series of Enhanced Professional Learning Programmes (EPLPs). These programmes focus on the development of 21st Century Competencies, Joyful Learning, supporting Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Low Progress learners, EdTech integration, reading and writing programmes for teachers and students, teaching language through drama-based strategies, and reimagining Tamil teaching and learning through Futures Literacy and Critical Media Literacy.
In collaboration with the Curriculum Planning and Development Division (CPDD) and the National Institute of Education (NIE), Subramaniam also spearheaded the Supporting Tamil Educators’ Professional Success (STEPS) initiative, which aims to empower aspiring Tamil educators to become effective, future-ready teachers and leaders.
Subramaniam believes that education should nurture every child to think, feel, and act wisely and positively in service of others and the nation. Beyond his professional role, he actively engages himself in community-based initiatives to promote the use and appreciation of the Tamil language and culture, particularly among youths and the wider community.
